Dr. Anjana Chaliha, Former Principal and Head of the Department of Philosophy, Jagannath Barooah College, conceived the idea of launching a Departmental philosophical journal in 1999. She is the founding force behind BEEKSHAN and the creator of the journal's guiding message, 'Beekshan Varta' (Message of BEEKSHAN).The inaugural issue of BEEKSHAN, the biennial and bilingual philosophical journal of Jagannath Barooah College, was published as the K.K. Handique Memorial Volume. The editorial responsibilities were undertaken by Sri Ganesh Bahadur Chetry, postgraduate student. Dr. Anjana Chaliha served as the Chairperson of the Editorial Board, while (Late) Dr. Panchami Bhattacharya Bora served as the Professor-in-Charge. This pioneering initiative laid the foundation for a scholarly platform dedicated to philosophical research and academic discourse.

The II volume of BEEKSHAN was published in 2001 as the K.C. Kakati Memorial Volume. During this period, (Late), Dr. Panchami Bhattacharyya Bora served as the Professor-in-Charge of the journal. The Joint Editors were Ms. Anuja Gogoi and Mr. Nekibuddin Ahmed, both postgraduate students of the Department of Philosophy.

The III volume of BEEKSHANwas published in July 2003 as the Mamata Baruah Memorial Volume. Dedicated to the memory of Mamata Baruah, this commemorative issue continued the journal’s tradition of promoting philosophical inquiry and academic excellence.For this volume, Dr. Arotee Neog served as the Professor-in-Charge, providing academic leadership and guidance for the publication. The editorial responsibility was entrusted to Sri Biren Saikia, a postgraduate student of the Department of Philosophy, who served as the Editor.The volume featured scholarly articles in both Assamese and English, reflecting the bilingual nature of BEEKSHAN and its commitment to fostering philosophical research and intellectual exchange. Contributions from scholars, teachers, and students enriched the issue with diverse perspectives on philosophical themes and contemporary academic concerns.The publication of the Mamata Baruah Memorial Volume marked another significant milestone in the growth of BEEKSHAN. It reinforced the journal’s objective of nurturing philosophical scholarship, encouraging young researchers, and preserving the academic tradition of the Department of Philosophy, Jagannath Barooah College.

The IV volume of BEEKSHAN was published in July 2005 during the Platinum Jubilee Year (1930–2005) of the college. This special issue was brought out as the Prafulla Pran Changkakoti Memorial Volume, commemorating the life and contributions of the distinguished scholar.The volume reflected the department's continued commitment to promoting philosophical research and academic excellence. Published on the occasion of the college's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, it served as a tribute to both the institution's rich academic heritage and the enduring legacy of Prafulla Pran Changkakoti.The issue was edited by Sri Dadul Dutta, while Mrs. Nibedita Bezboruah served as the Professor-in-Charge. The memorial volume included scholarly articles covering various branches of philosophy and contributed significantly to strengthening the journal's academic reputation.

The V volume of BEEKSHANwas published in July 2007. This issue was brought out as the Kalipada Chakraborty Memorial Volume, dedicated to the memory of the eminent philosopher and educationist Kalipada Chakraborty, in recognition of his valuable contributions to philosophical studies and higher education.The publication of this memorial volume reflected the Department's sustained commitment to fostering philosophical inquiry and academic excellence. It provided a platform for scholars, teachers, and researchers to present original and thought-provoking contributions on diverse areas of philosophy, thereby enriching philosophical discourse within and beyond the institution.The volume was edited by Sri Ranjit Bhattacharyya, while Dr. Sumitra Purkayastha served as the Professor-in-Charge. Under their guidance, the journal maintained its academic standards and continued the tradition established by the earlier volumes of BEEKSHAN. The memorial issue further strengthened the journal's reputation as a significant forum for philosophical scholarship and research in Assam.

BEEKSHAN, Volume VI, November 2009was published under the guidance of Prof.-in-Charge Dr. Panchami Bhattacharyya Borah and jointly edited by Jyotshna Bhuyan and Rimjim Hazarika, this issue reflects the Department's continued commitment to promoting philosophical inquiry and scholarly excellence.

The VII volume of BEEKSHAN, 2011 marked an important phase in the journal’s development. With the assignment of an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number) by the National Institute of Science Communication and Information Resources, New Delhi, the journal entered a new stage of academic recognition and publication standard. This volume reflected the continued growth and refinement of the journal since its inception. The volume introduced certain structural changes in the journal, including modifications in the Advisory Board and Editorial Board. It also marked a transition in editorship from the post-graduate students to the faculty members of the department, with the aim of preserving the dignity and academic quality of the journal. The editors acknowledged the valuable contributions of their predecessors, senior members, and all those who helped shape the journal over the years. The Acknowledgement section expresses heartfelt gratitude to Ms. V.V. Lakshmi, Head, NSL & ISSN, New Delhi, for assigning the ISSN to the journal. Special thanks were also extended to K.K. Bagchi, Prabhat Mahanta, and the Principal of J.B. College for their goodwill messages.
